Jill has been home for 10 days and similar to the hospital we have had our ups and downs. We organised the maxi taxi to come home on the 15th after completing Jill’s exercises and physio. She was that excited about being home – although I was uncertain how I would cope. Although our previous day trips should have been the answer as we settled into our normal hospital routine of medication, exercise, physio and early nights. We have had a couple of visits from the physios from the hospital and that will continue for several weeks. I have noticed some improvement in her walking – she has with the aid of the gutter walking frame negotiated our passage two to three times a day. The problem she has is that she cannot straighten her left knee fully – currently about -10 degrees off straight and that causes the problem when she puts her weight on it as she moves forward the leg bends further and she tends to stumble. The exercises from the physio are trying to improve the straightening and I think it is slowly working. Jill has had to continue with the pain medication so that she can do the physio without too much pain. She has to go to the doctor on Friday and looks like we will need the maxi taxi as getting into the Jeep will not be possible at the moment. This week has had another unhappy incident – Last Sunday Jake (our 13 year old Jack Russell) was sick a couple of times and lost control of his bladder. Off to the vet on Monday with a very sick looking dog. The vet kept him over night to do some tests but suggested a couple of things including diabetes. We got a phone call late in the evening to say he had developed severe diabetes (blood sugar level of 32- normal for a dog is 7) and that he also had pancreatitis which is not as easy to control as the diabetes. Long and short he is still at the animal hospital – They have the diabetes under control but as yet the pancreatitis is the main concert and he is showing no improvement and in a lot of pain. So our fingers are crossed. I will become a fulltime dog carer as well as he will have to have two insulin injections each day for the rest of his life. Its 9.30am and time for Jill to shower and do her bed exercises – lots of leg bending.
See you next week on the net.
Terribly sorry to hear about Jake’s health problems. Fingers crossed he will make a decent recovery, as much as possible.
